About

StudyCru is made by Brand Lab Maroc, an independent studio building mobile apps. We are small, and we build things we would use ourselves.

The problem is one most students recognise. Studying with other people works, and arranging it does not: the group chat goes quiet, half the people do not turn up, and you have no way of telling in advance who is serious. StudyCru is an attempt to make that arrangement reliable — verification so you know who you are meeting, check-in so attendance is a fact rather than a claim, and ratings so the people who show up accumulate something for it.

How we think about privacy

StudyCru is a social product: you build a visible record that strangers read before deciding whether to study with you. That makes privacy a design constraint rather than a policy page, and these are the rules every feature is held to.

Anonymous means unattributable

Not merely unnamed. A free-text comment plus a date is enough for someone who was in a small group to work out who wrote it, so ratings carry no date at all — not a fuzzy one, none. Removing the field entirely is the only version of this that actually holds.

A track record should not expose a routine

What a stranger sees on your profile is what you did: the subject, whether it was onsite or online, the rating. Never who else was there, never exactly when, never where. Reliability is legible without your week being legible.

Limits are enforced where they cannot be edited

How much of your history a stranger can see is decided by the server, based on who is asking. A cap the client could raise by changing a number in a URL is not a cap.

Moderation removes, it does not override

We can delete a review, a message or a follow. We cannot lift a block you placed — that is your safety control, and no report against you reopens a channel you closed.

When in doubt, strip the field

A field can always be added back once it turns out to be needed. It cannot be un-leaked once a client has received it. We would rather ship less data and add to it than the reverse.
